A sublimation printer is a printer used in sublimation printing. Essentially there are two types of sublimation printers: inkjet printers (usually Epson) that have been modified to take sublimation dye and dedicated sublimation printers which use a type of gel dye.
Unlike inkjet printers sublimation printers use a dye instead of ink. The image is usually printed from the computer (in reverse or mirror image) onto heat transfer paper; the paper is then put onto the surface that you want to print and pressed using a heat press. The dye is then transferred from the page to the item being printed. Unlike inkjet or laser heat transfer printing in which the paper is usually transferred with the image and can be felt sublimation printing essentially binds directly to the material (usually polyester) and dyes the material leaving a soft feel like what you usually see in cycling jerseys.
